Amazonite - History & Properties

History-Name

Amazonite is an opaque gemstone, a feldspar variety, in green-blue shades.
There are two different versions regarding the origin of its name:

  • According the first one, the name derives from the Amazon women warriors, as amazonite is also called "the stone of courage".
  • According the second version, the name derives from the Amazon river, as it was believed that the first specimens were discovered there, although no deposits of amazonite are found there.

Amazonite has been known and used by ancient Egyptian, Middle Eastern and Pre-Columbian cultures, mainly as talismans.


Healing Properties - Metaphysical

Amazonite aligns the physical and the ethereal body and helps in balancing the masculine and feminine energy, allowing a clearer vision of all aspects in circumstances and thus an increased creativity.
It relieves emotional trauma and reduces fear and anxiety. It enhances intuition and universal love, while it is believed that it improves married life and social interactions.


Healing Properties - Physical

Amazonite prevents geopathic stress that is believed to be the source of many illnesses as it weakens the immune system and protects from electromagnetic pollution.
Amazonite balances the metabolism, and is beneficial in overcoming calcium deficiency, so it is beneficial in osteoporosis and to dental health.


Chakras

Amazonite is associated with the Third Eye. Heart and Throat chakras.


Astrological Sign

Amazonite is associated with the Virgo, Taurus and Gemini signs.
