Mother of pearl (MOP) is the common name for nacre. It is called so because it is actually the creator of pearls, as pearls grow inside the shell due to this substance.
Nacre is an organic, iridescent material found on the inner layer of the pearl oyster shell. It is produced by the mollusc in order to protect itself and acts as a shield reducing the irritations caused from organic materials drifted into the shell and that’s how the pearl is formed. Only the exterior layer of pearl is covered by nacre, which is why it is important for them not to crack.
Mother of Pearl enhances intuition and sensitivity, and it is as well used as an atmosphere purifier.
